Child & Adolescent Services
Specialized Mental Health Care for Young Minds
Growing up has never been easy – but today’s children and teenagers face a unique set of pressures that can take a real toll on their mental health. From academic stress and social challenges to family changes and trauma, young people often struggle to make sense of what they’re feeling and why. At the Behavioral Medical Center – Troy, our clinicians specialize in providing compassionate, developmentally appropriate mental health care for children and adolescents from early childhood through their teenage years.
We understand that kids are not simply small adults. The way they experience and express emotional pain is different, and the way they respond to treatment is different too. That’s why our providers are specifically trained to work with younger patients – building trust, communicating in age-appropriate ways, and involving families as partners in the healing process.
Who We Serve
Our child and adolescent services are available for patients experiencing a wide range of emotional, behavioral, and developmental challenges, including:
- Anxiety and excessive worry
- Depression and mood changes
- ADHD – including attention, hyperactive and impulsive difficulties
- Oppositional and defiant behaviors
- Trauma and abuse
- Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Eating disorders
- Low self-esteem and social struggles
- Family and relationship stress
What Treatment Looks Like
Every child is different, and so is every treatment plan. Our providers use a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to the age, personality, and needs of each patient – including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-Focused CBT, play-informed techniques, and more. When appropriate, psychiatric evaluation and medication management are available as part of a comprehensive care plan.
We also recognize that a child’s wellbeing is deeply connected to the health of the family system around them. Our clinicians regularly collaborate with parents, guardians, and in some cases schools or outside providers, to ensure that young patients have consistent support across all areas of their lives.
A Safe Space to Be Heard
Perhaps most importantly, we work hard to make BMC-Troy a place where children and teens feel safe, respected, and understood. For many young patients, simply having a trusted adult outside of their immediate circle to talk to can be transformative.
