In-Person Visits

The Value of Showing Up – Face to Face

There is something irreplaceable about sitting across from another person who is fully present with you. While telehealth has made mental health care more accessible than ever, many patients find that in-person visits provide a depth of connection, focus, and therapeutic engagement that is difficult to replicate through a screen. At the Behavioral Medical Center – Troy in Michigan, our office is a welcoming, private, and comfortable space where real healing happens – one appointment at a time.

Whether you’re coming in for psychotherapy, psychiatric medication management, or both, our in-person experience is designed to make you feel at ease from the moment you walk through the door.

Psychotherapy In Person

For many patients, in-person therapy simply works better. The physical presence of a trusted therapist – the eye contact, the body language, the uninterrupted space – creates a therapeutic environment that can be especially powerful for those working through trauma, relationship issues, or deeply personal emotional challenges.

At BMC-Troy, our therapists offer a wide range of evidence-based modalities in person, including:

  • Individual counseling for adults, adolescents, and children
  • Couples and marriage counseling
  • Family therapy
  • Trauma-focused approaches including EMDR, TRE, and Post Induction Therapy – all of which are particularly well-suited to in-person delivery
  • CBT, DBT elements, IFS, psychodynamic therapy, and more

For trauma-specific modalities like EMDR and TRE in particular, in-person sessions are strongly preferred and in many cases clinically recommended, as these approaches involve physical and somatic components that are most effective when conducted face to face.

Medication Management In Person

Initial psychiatric evaluations and medication management appointments are often best conducted in person, particularly for new patients. Meeting face to face allows our psychiatric providers to conduct a more thorough clinical assessment, observe non-verbal cues, and build the kind of patient-provider relationship that leads to better treatment outcomes.

In-person medication management visits at BMC-Troy include:

  • Comprehensive psychiatric evaluations for new patients
  • Ongoing medication monitoring and prescription management
  • Dosage adjustments and medication changes
  • Discussion of side effects, concerns, and treatment goals
  • Coordination with therapists and outside providers as needed

Currently, BMC-Troy prescribers do have a two in-person visit minimum requirement from January to December of each year. Telehealth or in person visits can be done otherwise, outside of the two required in-person visits.

Please note: the number of in-person visits per year is subject to change depending on insurance company and malpractice support of telehealth along with DEA guidelines for those prescribed federally controlled medications.
